Music brings people together, especially so in this special concert featuring Concertmaster-cum-Assistant Conductor of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, renowned erhu master Wong On-yuen, his son, SCO gaohu Associate Principal Wong Sun Tat, and his daughter-in-law SCO pipa Principal Yu Jia.
The father and son team pairs up to present a double-erhu concerto while Yu Jia gives her depiction of Spring and Autumn, a modern pipa concerto composed by Tang Jian Ping in 1994. The concert also sees the world premier of Symphonic Tone poem Mt Kinabalu, a work dedicated to this prominent mountain in Southeast Asia, composed by 2nd prize winner of SCO International Competition for Chinese Orchestral Composition Simon Kong Su Leong.
*There will be a few compulsory concerts throughout the year, and some recommended ones featuring the various sections of the Orchestra. The purpose of having the compulsory concerts is to enhance the knowledge and have a better understanding of the skills required of Chinese Orchestral instruments. As all of you should know by now, next year is a crucial year for PJCO, as it is once again the SYF season. There will also be exchange programmes(in lieu of the SYF 2009) with other colleges' Chinese Orchestras, which will most likely be held during the end-of-year holidays. This is to allow more improvements to be made and attain our goal for SYF. Hope that the arrangements will be kindly appreciated by all PJCO members to make the Orchestral experience a fulfilling one. XD
[P.S There will be no Chinese Orchestra practice next Wed-16/4/08, due to GP Enrichment day, practice will resume next Fri-18/4/08]
